Dr Jay Thakkar is a general and interventional adult cardiologist.
He graduated in 2003 winning a Gold medal in final MBBS examination. He completed cardiology training at Westmead Public Hospital and obtained FRACP in 2012. Passionate about his work, he undertook an advanced fellowship in Interventional cardiology at the world renowned Vancouver General Hospital, Canada.
Dr Thakkar has a keen interest in research and has published widely. He was a research fellow at The George Institute for Global Health and The University of Sydney, examining the use of mobile phone text messaging service for cardiac rehabilitation in patients with coronary artery disease.
Dr Thakkar’s practice encompasses all aspects of adult cardiology, with special interest in coronary angiography, coronary artery stenting, rotablation (drilling calcium deposits in stiff blockages) and coronary artery imaging using OCT (infrared light) and IVUS (ultrasound). He offers exercise stress testing, echocardiography and cardioversion services.
Dr Thakkar consults at our Baulkham hills and Rouse hill suites. He is a staff specialist at Westmead Public Hospital and a VMO at Westmead Private Hospital, Hospital for Specialist Surgery and Norwest Private Hospital.
