Garett Smith is a consultant surgeon at Norwest Private Hospital, Sydney Adventist Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital and North Shore Private Hospitals. He is Clinical Associate Professor in surgery at the University of Sydney.
Garett has been in consultant surgical practice for over 15 years concentrating mainly on laparoscopic surgery for obesity and upper gastrointestinal disorders. Garett performed his junior surgical training at Royal North Shore Hospital and John Hunter Hospital and advanced training in laparoscopic surgery in Sydney, the United Kingdom and United States. Garett offers weight loss surgery patients a range of laparoscopic procedures including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic Omega bypass and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y bypass. He has an interest in re-operative bariatric surgery.
Garett obtained his medical degree through the University of Newcastle and obtained a Masters of Surgery degree by thesis at the University of Sydney.
Garett is a past president of Sydney Upper Gastrointestinal Surgical Society and founding executive member of the ANZ Oesophageal and Gastric Surgeons Society. He is a leading contributor to the National bariatric Surgery Registry for 2017 and is the convenor of the RACS ASC Bariatric Surgery program for 2018.
Garett is involved in the training of general surgeons as well as training surgeons in advanced laparoscopic surgery for obesity, hiatus hernia and oesophagogastric cancer.
Garett has an interest in laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and hernia surgery.
