About Dr Breman Janarthanan
Dr Breman Janarthanan is a consultant Respiratory and Sleep Physician and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He manages all aspects of lung and sleep health, with a strong focus on personalised care and clear communication.
Dr Janarthanan completed his medical degree at James Cook University in Queensland before undertaking specialist training in respiratory and sleep medicine at The Prince of Wales Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital and The Canberra Hospital. His training included six months in lung transplant medicine and a further twelve months in respiratory failure and sleep medicine, giving him extensive experience in diagnosing and managing complex airway and breathing disorders.
He currently works as a staff specialist at The Canberra Hospital, where he continues to support patients with advanced respiratory conditions, complex sleep disorders and chronic respiratory failure. His clinical interests include asthma, airway disease, interstitial lung disease, lung nodule work-up and the investigation of persistent daytime sleepiness.
Dr Janarthanan has particular expertise in the management of respiratory failure, including obesity hypoventilation syndrome and neuromuscular disease. He is fluent in Tamil, enabling effective communication with a diverse range of patients.
