About Dr Chatika Premaratne

Dr Chatika Premaratne is an experienced colorectal and general surgeon based at Norwest Private Hospital, with a public appointment as a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in Colorectal Surgery at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

He completed his general surgery training through the Western Sydney training network and obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2016. Dr Premaratne then undertook subspecialty colorectal training at Nepean Hospital, where he was the inaugural Colorectal Fellow.

Following this, he completed an international fellowship at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Trust (UK). His subspecialty training there included laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic exenteration for advanced pelvic cancers and complex abdominal wall reconstruction.

Dr Premaratne’s scope of practice includes laparoscopic colorectal surgery, gallbladder surgery, hernia repairs, abdominal wall reconstruction, endoscopy and colonoscopy. He also performs a full range of proctology procedures, including those for haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas.

He is fluent in English and Sinhala.
