About Dr Kalhara Perera
Dr Kalhara Perera graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2010 with a Bachelor of Medical Science, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Following internship and residency, he commenced cardiothoracic surgery training and obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).
His training and fellowship years were undertaken at major centres in Australia and the United Kingdom, including Westmead Hospital in Sydney, the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, and University Hospital Southampton (UK). During this time, he trained across all aspects of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery.
Dr Perera commenced consultant practice in 2021. He is currently appointed at Westmead Public Hospital, Westmead Private Hospital and Norwest Private Hospital, where he focuses on patient safety, careful operative planning and excellent clinical outcomes.

Dr Perera provides expert assessment and surgical management across cardiothoracic conditions, including:

- Benign and malignant lung and mediastinal conditions requiring surgery

Dr Perera has a subspecialty interest in major aortic surgery. He trained under the supervision of world-renowned aortic surgeon Dr George Matalanis at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne. Dr Perera has published extensively on the topic of aortic surgery.
