Cardiologist Dr. Karan Rao

Biography

Dr. Karan Rao is an adult cardiologist, with an interest in coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease.

Dr. Rao completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of New South Wales, graduating with Distinction in 2014. He subsequently completed a postgraduate Masters in Public Health, and finished Cardiology training at Westmead Hospital in 2021.

He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2022 and is currently an interventional research fellow at Royal North Shore Hospital. Concurrently, he is a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney, and his research focuses on the optimisation of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). His work is supported through the prestigious National Health Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and Heart Research Australia PhD Scholarships, and has been published and presented internationally.

Dr. Rao’s practice encompasses all aspects of adult cardiology, including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, heart rhythm disorders, heart failure, cardiovascular imaging, and preventive cardiology. He believes in holistic, evidence-based medicine and prioritises effective communication through compassionate and personalised consultations for his patients.

Dr. Rao is fluent in English, Hindi and Gujarati, and his other interests include a passion for medical education, as well as being a self-labelled cricket and golf tragic. Dr Rao is available for consultation at the Rouse Hill and Norwest clinics.
