Dr Chatika Premaratne is a specialist Colorectal and General Surgeon at Norwest Private Hospital. He has a public appointment as a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in Colorectal Surgery at John Hunter Hospital – Newcastle.
Having completed his training in general surgery as part of the Western Sydney network, he attained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2016. He completed further subspecialist training in colorectal surgery at Nepean Hospital as the inaugural Colorectal Fellow.
Subsequent to this, Dr Premaratne has also completed an overseas fellowship in colorectal surgery at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Trust, UK, where, he was trained in laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancers and inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic exenterations for advanced pelvic cancers, and complex abdominal wall reconstructions.
Dr Premaratne’s areas of interest include laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer, gallstones, inflammatory bowel disease and hernia repairs (including abdominal wall reconstructions). He also has expertise in endoscopy, colonoscopy and proctology – transanal procedures for haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas.
