Dr Katherine J Zhu

Biography

Dr Katherine Zhu is a colorectal and general surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive surgery.  Dr Zhu treats all aspects of colorectal surgery, including colorectal cancer, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease and anorectal conditions (such as haemorrhoids, rectal prolapse, anal fissures and fistulae).  Dr Zhu performs endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), as well as general surgery procedures (including hernia repair and gallbladder surgery).

Dr Zhu is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia & New Zealand (CSSANZ).  Dr Zhu has post-fellowship sub-specialist training in colorectal surgery from Wollongong Hospital, The Alfred Hospital Melbourne and Concord General & Repatriation Hospital.

  • Major colorectal surgery (minimally invasive and open) - including major bowel resection (for benign and malignant conditions), diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, prolapse surgery
  • Anorectal Surgery - including anal fistula, abscess, fissure and haemorrhoids

  • Diagnostic endoscopy
  • General surgery (minimally invasive and open) - including hernia repair, cholecystectomy

Association

In addition to multiple scientific publications, Dr Zhu is a reviewer for the Australia & New Zealand Journal of Surgery.  Dr Zhu is also on the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons trainee selection panel.

Education

Dr Zhu graduated from the University of New South Wales with Honours.  She completed General Surgical training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and was awarded Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015.

Academically, Dr Zhu has a Masters of Surgery in Colorectal Surgery from the University of Sydney, in association with the Institute of Academic Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
